Moh Ahmed Prevails In 2,000 Meters, Shelby Houlihan Rides Fast Start To Victory In The 800

In a brief event Friday evening at Portland's Jesuit High, Shelby Houlihan and Moh Ahmed once again stamped their dominance on the Nike Bowerman Track Club's summer of intrasquad meets.

Both runners proved they would have been formidable at the Olympic Games had it not been canceled by the global pandemic.

Moh Ahmed won an elimination 2,000 meters at the Portland Intrasquad V, in which the last-place runner had to leave the race after every lap.

LIVE RESULTS

Ahmed clocked 5:00.72, which put him in range of the Canadian national record of 4:59.56 by Nate Brannen in 2013.

Sean McGorty and Evan Jager both survived until the final lap, finishing in second and third place, respectively. McGorty clocked 5:09.75 and Jager ran 5:11.42.

In the only other serious race of the program, Houlihan charged out hard for a sub-2 minute clocking in the 800 meters, going out in 57 seconds. She tied up a bit in the final 150 and crossed the finish line in 2:01.08 more than a second off her personal best.

Karissa Schweizer was second in 2:02.77 and Colleen Quigley was third in 2:02.98, as both runners established new personal bests in an event that is much shorter than what they are accustomed to.

Elise Cranny also PR'd with 2:04.53 for fourth and Courtney Frerichs did as well, with 2:06.33 for fifth.
